Price-change notice planner

A price rise is announced once, but the notice that counts is the one each subscriber gets before their own first charge at the new price. In California and New York it must not arrive more than 30 days early, nor too late. Give the date the new price starts and your renewal dates, and get the day to send each notice and the reminder.

How it picks the dates

  • Per subscriber, from their renewal. Each renewal date is moved on a month or a year until it is on or after the day the new price starts; that charge is the one the notice is about. Monthly plans renewing on the 29th to 31st fall on the last day of shorter months.
  • The windows: California, 7 to 30 days before the change. New York, 5 business days to 30 days before; for annual plans 15 to 30 days, so one email is also the renewal notice New York asks for 15 to 45 days ahead. UK and EU set no number of days; we plan at least 30, with a way to cancel before the new price applies. Other US states: 21 days, never later than 7.
  • The send day is 21 days before the charge, moved into the window if it falls outside, and never before the first day you can send. The reminder is 7 days before, still inside California's and New York's windows.
  • Too late for this renewal? If the window has already closed, that subscriber pays the old price once more and the new price starts at the renewal after; the row says so.
  • Not counted: public holidays (New York's business days), time zones, and Apple or Google Play subscriptions, where the store sends the notice under its own rules. This is a planning aid, not legal advice.

What the email itself says, the Apple and Google Play limits, the German and Italian court cases and a worked annual plan: Prices are going up: the price-change email a small app sends, and the notice it owes subscribers.

Send each notice on its day

The CSV has a send date per subscriber. With email59 each notice is one call to /v1/send, with replies going to an inbox someone reads.
